ABOUT THE MIGHTY TIGERS
Based in Arundel on Allied Drive is Morrie Glasman Oval, home to the Southport Labrador Cricket Club. Our club is one of the oldest non-profit community-based sporting organizations in Queensland, with the Club’s history through its Southport origins dating back as far as 1883.
Throughout this time the Club has enjoyed great success within the Gold Coast Cricket District’s club competition, winning more than 30 premierships and producing numerous State and Australian cricket representatives, including Steve Monty (QLD), John Buchanan (QLD & Australian Coach), and Richie Robinson (VIC & Australian Representative, QLD Coach). Former Australian Test selector, player, and 1948 Invincible Sam Loxton was also a regular patron of the Club up until his recent passing.
Now one of the largest and most successful clubs in the Gold Coast district, Southport Labrador Cricket Club has more than 100 playing members and 50 social members, with teams participating in all six grades of the local junior and senior competition/s.
The Club is also an active supporter of junior cricket on the Gold Coast, through both administrative involvement and coaching support, with more than 70 children representing Southport Labrador Cricket Club across the under 10’s, 11’s, 12’s, 13’s, 15’s and 17’s, Junior Blasters (5-7yrs) and Master Blaster (7yrs-10yrs) competitions.
